Being in Garland was by far the most anxiety-provoking experience I’ve ever had the displeasure of going through in my entire life. I was an involuntary patient, so all of the doctors and nurses made the assumption that I was insane because I was not completely willing to go to a mental hospital. No nurses, social workers, or techs can provide any information as to when you might get out - the only person with that authority is your assigned doctor. I had Dr. Onanuga, who was undoubtedly the most apathetic pschiatrists I have ever encountered. I met him only twice in one week, and during our first meeting, he made fun of me for tearing up when he told me I was going to be held against my will for at least a week. If you’re looking for a facility at which to be a voluntary patient, avoid Garland.
